A user on instagram @thejeep_guy posted some advanced information to his profile. Seems to outline the dates of the upcoming plans. Sales launch by September 17,2018 ... I can wait for that ! How about you ?
Hopefully that soft top won't require us to come to a full stop before being able to operate it. What they should do is have some low speed range as the threshold so you can just stay in the slow lane for the 20-30 seconds while the top does its thing.
I think you may need to be slower than that to open and close the top. It lifts up quite a bit before folding into the back, that's a lot of surface area to catch that 30km/h wind.
Don't know much about this but what I do know is if it's not on something recent then odds are it might not follow any new regulation set out since new safety regulations might suggest your only allowed to lower/raise the top under slow driving speeds. Depends on construction of the top as well. Many variables.
I'm more interested in the Hurricane engine and 850SE transmission. That's a combination of power and fuel economy we've never seen before in a Wrangler.
The new 850RE transmission seems to be able to hold up to 500Nm or ~370lb-ft of torque according to what I'm reading. Really not too shabby at all, but that kind of puts a hinder on my plans for upgrading. Really have to see what this transmission is comprised of and if changes can be made. Otherwise, hopefully the 6 speed manual can be paired with this (can't see why not) and that'll be the route to follow.
Maybe there's going to be a bit of wiggle room for you when the JL comes. We don't know how much torque the Hurricane engine is going to produce in the JL, all we have is a rumor that it can pump out around 300 hp.
Considering it's a turbo motor though, I'm willing to bank on the torque output being around the 320-330lb-ft mark. Turbos provide that torque real well, and I'm banking on peak torque to be around the 4-5k area. Hopefully lol.
The only thing is OEM's like to aim for safe levels of power output so we can't expect too much from it maybe just slightly above the competition, enough to give them an edge in power but that's about it.
Plus these days boosted systems in vehicles like this are more for serving fuel econ requirements, better power is just a perk.
Reliability is one thing i`ll be concerned about since they already produce a naturally aspirated 2.0 putting out 160hp and reports are saying this boosted 4 cylinder will produce as much as 300hp.
There's always going to be a risk of reducing an engine's reliability when you try to squeeze out more power than what the factory offers since the engine internals will be exposed to higher pressures and temperatures. Maybe a flash tune will be sufficient for most.
New info! Sources say the 2018 Jeep Wrangler will start hitting dealership floors in mid to late December 2017. This was from a recent dealer meeting with Jeep.
So this should be a good time to try and get a deposit down on an allocation if you're good with your dealer perhaps? Then follow up with a build a bit closer when the books open?
Really depends on your dealership and how much Wrangler allotment they'll be getting. won't really need a deposit if they're going to be getting a lot in stock. Also heard the Jeep Wrangler diesel is already being tested before its 2019 launch.
Deposit still helps since the wait can vary depending on which batch you get from and when that batch releases. I don't know about you but I rather minimize my wait as much as possible. First allocation owners usually have it the best, after all, car makers want a smooth launch.
I'm guessing the extra packages will make up for the reduced amount of trims available. Instead of something like the big bear, you'll probably get a more off-road orientated package.
Maybe I want to suggest something new they could come out with but can't think of anything right now. SEMA is coming up and that might be an opportunity for them to tease us with some package or what might be possible the JL, even the truck version.
See what Jeep throws onto the already existing Wrangler concept models? Not a far fetched idea since Jeep said teasers were hidden in their Moab concepts.
Well the Safari and the Quicksand concepts were rumored to have hints of the JL so I won't be surprised to see Jeep do something similar for their other show concepts. But I doubt it'll be as soon as SEMA when the standard JL models haven't even debuted yet.
those were way too subtle to be because all it included that hinted at the new JL was the grille design and personally i think they could have done more all while still meeting their overall design objectives, after all these were some unique concepts, one was a hot rod.
Should be any moment now since as of recent there has been leaks and images of the production model. FCA is great with keeping thing hidden when they should be so see this as them wanting us to see certain things and to hold onto our wallets for now
Good news for those of you in the UK who couldn't get your hands on the current gen Wrangler! Jeep is planing to produce a lot more to meet demands instead of limiting the UK volume to around 2000 units.
Wasn't even aware that Jeep was limiting Wrangler export to other countries, but I suppose it makes sense to meet local demands before delivering the excess globally.
You bet, much easier to move these from the plant in Toledo by truck across north america than it is to move these by ship across the sea, and moving them is just one of the factors to global market sales.
If sales abroad exceeds their expectations, then Jeep may open up another Factory in Europe. But for now, the U.S. factory should be more than able to supply the world with the new expansion.
