New engine options now available

According to a new report, the JL can now be ordered with a 3.0l turbo diesel V6 or a 3.6L V6 eTorque mild hybrid. The diesel option looks like it will only be available on 4 door versions of the Sport, Sahara and Rubicon. FCA's eTorque system has been a bit disappointing in the new Ram, especially for an extra $2k, so we will have to see how its priced here.

I doubt that the diesel is really going to have the capability to tow anymore than the gas engine, so I feel like most people will just stick with petrol. Odds are its the same engine that's used in the Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 Ecodiesel.

as long as towing capacity is around the 5,000 LBS marker then I might consider it because that's what's normal for these vehicles (4Runner, and even non-diesel JL's that get a bit less)

There is no way that the diesel is going to increase towing capacity by 1,500lbs lol. If that's a priority, you're better off waiting for the new Scrambler, which is looking to be much more capable.

never bought a diesel vehicle before and right now I won't mind waiting on the Scrambler but going that direction, a used RAM 1500 EcoDiesel would be a good buy.

Personally I'm more interested in the results of the mild hybrid than the diesel. I just don't see the benefits of that engine on a vehicle that's rarely used for towing/hauling. Curious what the new 3.0 turbo sounds like however.
