I did not see them on the wall of parts at SEMA, but maybe I missed them. I seem to recall reading someone at Jeep saying they were seriously considering making the Switchback cut-out half-doors, but I am not sure how practical they would be without some kind of splash proof insert.

Haven't heard anything about those and I doubt Jeep will release those half doors themselves. Maybe and aftermarket company can fill that void and if they do, w can expect the doors to be easily changeable. I suppose it's great for people who experience summer all year round with limited rain.

Jeep has expanded its global reach which might just present that possibility that Mopar might do something about this, but if it happens expect them to make it very clear that it is for off road use only. Plus I bet that cops will be around to reinforce that idea as well.

Finally!
As for me, it looks pretty good, however, I think a lot of people won't be happy about that hole right in the middle of the door. What do you think about it?

I think they look terrible, the clean look half doors provide going topless is lost. The big hole is such a distracting eyesore. I mean just look at the pictures at the top of this website. That's why I chose half doors over full doors on my JK. But I guess these are nothing more than a Mopar accessory and not an option over the full doors. I read on another forum uppers aren't even provided. Such a wasted opportunity to update the half doors, such as engineering an upper with a glass window that could be slid down into a recess in the door.

Seem like we're gonna see a few different models of those half-doors. Nothing to worry about, I think you will find one for yourself.
Two of the 3 pictures you attached are the current JK factory half doors, not new JL half doors. I would be extremely happy if Jeep offered those on the JL but doesn't look like it is going to be an option
