Once again we turn to Allpar for an insight or two into the development of the JL wrangler. Bob Sheaves is a former Jeep engineer with some unique insights into where FCA is constrained and capable.
Bob says he doesn't expect Jeep to offer the JL in 4 door pickup format, 2 reasons. First a 'crew cab' JL would require a longer chassis. A longer chassis would require changes to the assembly line as well as changes to logistics (car carrier spacing). Second, keeping the JL pickup within the current 4 doors footprint protects the cash cow RAM 1500.
Dimensionally the JL pickup should be about the same size as Fords now defunct Ranger, just slightly wider.
He expects Jeep will produce nearly 40,000 pickup JLs annually, offered up with the Pentastar V6 and the Ecodiesel V6. 1,000 lb payload/6,000 lb tow rating.
How much of a premium do you think Jeep will ask?
