Hey guys,

Current owner of an older Rubicon JK, currently on the fence about the new JL. As much as I'm impressed by the improvements that Jeep has made with the new Wrangler, I'm a little hesitant to buy in this early. I've seen the widespread UConnect issues online and I know there are a lot of people who haven't been able to build their new JL to their liking due to production problems. Oh ya and Jeep pulled the Off Road pages..not cool.

Welcome to the forum! Similar to you, I'm holding back as well to make sure all the bugs have been ironed out over time since this is going to be my first ever Jeep, constantly going to the dealership for problems is not really appealing. I'm still getting a Wrangler JL, just a matter of when.

Will you take the plunge once the UConnect issues have been fixed?

I know what you mean and right now i'm not in any rush to buy. Always liked the Toyota FJ which right now has reached a dead point with no info from them on its successor. If its a solid product I could very well consider it over the Wrangler.

I was raised like many being told never buy the first model year of a new release. Then I thought about it. You could always buy a buggy early release JL and then trade it in when improvements are made. It's either a step up now or a step up later. Both vehicles are going to lose value whether you're talking JK or JL. Why not enjoy the JL now? When they release the special editions in a couple years, trade it for the SE you like.

I typically hold onto my vehicles for quite a long time, even when new models are released. I have no idea whether or not there will be any serious concerns with the new JL, but there have been some pretty significant changes to the powertrain. My only concern is that it looks like the base price continues to rise with every new generation.

it might be an all new JL, but the 3.6 has been around for awhile, I think they made some tweaks to the engine thou.
I've had no uConnect problems, at least none I've noticed.
the 8 speed auto has been in the Grand Cherokee for a few years. It's just new in the Wrangler. so any growing pains should be worked out by now, I haven't heard of any problems.
On a side note, if they put the 9 speed in there, I would not have bought it.
The power steering is now hydro/electric, probably going to be more expensive to fix if there's trouble. But does make for a smoother more consistent steering experience.
They've beefed up the steering and suspension, the hard top is lighter, the soft top is user friendly.

If I had to critique one thing, it's the little bit of dripping in the Jeep when you open the door when it's raining or after you wash it.
But that's something I'm willing to overlook, just because of the engineering challenges of having the windshield fold down and the doors and roof removable.

Hope this helps.
