The 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is underway in Las Vegas and Jeep used this event to showcase the host of new technologies their 2018 Wrangler has to offer.

At the forefront is the new award-winning fourth-generation Uconnect system which, according to Auto123, is faster to start than its predecessor with a high resolution 8.4-inch touchscreen and enhanced processing power. It even comes with more practical functionalities including 4G LTE connected services and integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In addition, Jeep introduced a new Jeep Adventure Reality application for iPhone 7, 8, X and iPad Pro users. Said app offers consumers an “augmented reality experience” where users can configure their dream Wrangler and interact with it by removing doors, lowering the windshield, etc. Customers can even see what the Wrangler would look like parked on their driveway or in the garage. Once completed, the build can be shared on social media platforms or linked too Jeep for inventory and pricing information.

Lastly, Jeep introduced their new Uconnect app for smartwatches. Compatible with Apple Watch and Android Wear, owners can use the app to remotely start their car, lock/unlock doors, flash the lights and even honk your horn. Do note this app is only available in 2018 model year vehicles with SiriusXM Guardian.

What we’re seeing here could become the new standard for future Jeep vehicles.

Let's hope they've drastically improved the Uconnect app because reviews aren't positive. Someone claims the app response time is slow and could take a couple of minutes to go through. So you could remotely start your car and walk out a few minutes later to find it stone cold and just warming up.
There have always been syncing and connection issues across the board, not just with FCA versions and that alone can be a deal breaker, no one wants to waste time sitting doing nothing when they need to access the features ASAP. I will be following up on developments around this to make sure i'm not buying into a dud.
Two of the three listed new tech features just aren't applicable to me, but I'm sure some people out there with smart watches are giddy to give it a try. Seems convenient to tap on your watch and use it as a key. Even better if your watch is waterproof, so you can use it as a waterproof key and leave the real one somewhere else.

Well it is for multitasking and if you use more than a few apps at a time, having another screen that you can easily access goes a long way. Its not for everyone but if you are that connected and depend on tech that much, its a major win. Most people I know use smartwatches for notifications, music, etc.
What would have been nice is a touch screen for the infotainment system similar to what we have on our cellphones. Pinch and zoom, swipe left or right, etc.
Tell me about it and the more car makers do that the better off everyone is. Just like other types of products, having a standardized way to use it is the proven path. Unless of course they have new innovations like gesture control or something that can read your thoughts.
They should spent less time on Augmented Reality apps and more time beta testing their new Uconnect app. Google reviews are absolutely terrible and its sure fire way to turn off new buyers. Seeing as how we live in a world of interconnectivity, people aren't going to be happy when they aren't able to use all the smartphone features as advertised. And from what I've seen you have to have the app open and running on your phone to utilize the smartwatch features...lame.
