Traditionally, the Jeep Wrangler has round headlights, but the 2018 Wrangler will offer customers LED or HID options as well. This is a great move by Jeep since even the cheapest Dodges and Chryslers can get HID headlights now.
There are more changes to the upcoming Wrangler's lighting too. The 2018 Wrangler will have its turn signals moved to the outer fenders instead of the traditional places in the grille. This was likely done for cost reduction as it would allow Jeep to use a single assembly for forward facing and side lights.
Yet another change to the turn signals would be their placement in the side mirrors along with a warning for blind spot detection.
Moving to the rear of the Wrangler, the exposed screws will be ditched in the 2018 model. The rear lights are likely going to be based on the Renegade's rear lighting.
In addition to these lighting changes, we can also expect to see long awaited variants, like a pickup, and a solid roof SUV.
Worst case scenario, call a buddy that can do electrical and pay them with beers Works every darn time. Just make sure the beer comes in after the job is done haha!
Just remember, if you grab a Wrangler JL and want to start chopping into the wires and splicing in, you can almost guarantee that they're voiding your electrical warranty. Unless you hide it real well and make it all look 100% oem.
Hence my mention of finding those smaller harnesses. Knowing it will only cost you $100-200 to replace a tiny bit of harness yourself is much easier to accept than the thought of loss of warranty. Often car makers have smaller harnesses for their own servicing purposes.
The warranty can only be voided if the modification caused the problem. Otherwise, they have to honor their warranty. In other words, if you had a tail light assembly go bad, they can't say your modification of front lighting voids the warranty.
That's definitely true, but a lot of times dealers are hard-asses and if they really want to be difficult about it, they would. Trying to fight with them and all of that will just end up with you needing to go to court and fight em' for it and it's just not worth the time. Dealt with it before, PITA and ultimately nothing really got done.
Guess it's down to how much risk you're willing to take and if the dealership is nice. I'll just stick with stock lights aside from a simple bulb change. After the warranty expires it's all fair game and full housing changes.
The safest bet by far just to avoid the hassle. It's really not much of a big deal, just gotta figure out the little things that you can do without causing any ruckus
Factory lights should be fine for most people, they've even added a set of clear LED turn signal light strips to the fender flares and there's going to be a set of "X" Renegade taillights on the JL Wrangler.
