I have a Rubicon JL unlimited Manual transmission and have found the reverse gear totally and dangerously underpowered in 2 or 4W On even low grade inclines with any light mud or snow on the ground . Anyone else burning out their clutch till it’s smoking trying to get this beast to back up a hill in reverse . Dealer says there’s nothing wrong but didn’t test it on mud or wet or incline - just black top. Worried about needing to back up from a cliff and never making it back in this rig. Last Rubicon could walk her as backwards up anything !

That's the first complaint that I've heard about reverse in the JL. I find it a little hard to believe that's normal, and if it is then that's a pretty serious oversight from FCA. Wonder if its any better in an auto.

I’ve driven this JL for a year now and complained to DCH Jeep service in Temecula about the underpowered reverse gear and the difficulty I’ve had changing into and out of 4Hi. As a woma driver I’m sick of the sexist attritudr I’ve received from the service managers. Finally someone’s listened and they changed out the transfer case . They kept my JL for a week and when I picked it up tonight it is still not functioning reliably. I complained to the service manager on shift and his attitude was totally sexist. I think after a year of struggling with a Jeep off road that sticks in Neutral and won’t shift in or out of 4 wheel drive or jumps out of 4 Wheel onto neutralnlewving you skidding uncontrollably down muddy incline that I’ve got a **** fair idea that the gear box is not functional or safe. This is the fourth time my opinion and experience has been dismissed by these guys and I’m sick of it!! They’ve kept the Jeep again . A year of complains and a week in their service bays and I’m no further forward and losing confidence in the JL manual gear reliability ! One more failure to correct this issue and I’m invoking the lemon law and asking for a replacement

Contacted Chrysler resolutions . Still cannot get this rig to stay in 4L and it jams in neutral between gear changes leaving you without any gear!! Jeep is back at the service department this week. They’re working on repair replace or refund per the CA lemon law clauses. Additional problem with auto stop start that ghost starts and sometimes won’t restart . So sad my JL is nothing but a problem child . Want my JK rubicon back . Stiff clunky and slow on the highway but I could use it off-road
